Ideas for my MK2 Golf
« on: January 23, 2006, 02:07:15 am »
Well i would liek to share some ideas i have for my MK2 Golf.It is a two door but the body is in ok shape but i might be better off geting a shell. So what are the pros and cons of a 2 door over a 4 door, also what do you feel a MK2 Golf shell would go for.I iam think of a old school thame.I am think of keeping the body color i have now which is white but maybe a pearl or some other color with pin strips. The interior is brown and tan so i want to keep it that way lol i just like how it looks with the white body.but i think swade would be better lookign the cloth for the seats.Iam also thinking of a wood steering wheel and shift know as well as some other small details in wood for a nice old school look. For wheels some 13inch Panasport's FS's not sure on how wide yet, with some good rubber to fit them. For the trim on the body iam not sure just want to keep it clean and to go form my stock headlights to rounds.I was told by a friend that the diesel core mine work with rounds?Under the hood.I got some ideas like a ploished G60 cover,a cool air intake made by me for better air flow and looks also ploished, maybe get some stainless injector lines made up and ploish them too,I think i saw some of the other members say that some older 1.5's and 1.6s came with metal timing covers,so would one if on my 86 1.6 N/A?If so i would paint it to match the body.I just want to keep it a daily and with some show but nice and clean and old school look.Liek ploished parts and clean lines with some wood added in for a lil class. So what do you guys think and iam open to ideas.

Sounds like a sweet ride to me.  I have always liked the look of wood trim in the interior.  If you're trying to keep with the oldschool look, then the 13 inch steelies with the small chrome vw hubcaps would do it for me.  Single rounds would also look sweet for a truly oldschool ride, or maybe even westmosterland squares if you can find the parts for it.  Its always nice to see minty fresh nostalgia so post pics when you're done with it.

i had a mkII jetta shell i was giving away. no one wanted it, if that means anything to you.

if you are try to be 'old school' i wouldn't put the G60 VC on there, but thats personal preference.

single rounds or westy squares, one of the two.

13" wheels.

those wheels look like they'd be a practical choice. they say they are strong enough for street use. the G60 VCs look great... my first VW was a G60 so i'm pretty torn on the issue

Thanks. So how wide would be best for the wheels? For mirrors what do you guys think would be best round or square chrome or stainless? Also what tire size the ones on it now are 155/80/13's what would be better for a daily driver that is still a 13 incher? Will single rounds work in my core suport i have now or will i have to get another one? What ideas do you guys have for a suspension set up that would be the best for a daily? And what year did VW diesel's come with a sheet metal timing cover? Thanks for any help.

I had a idea about the injectors. What about having them chrome plated for looks as well as to stop rust. What do you think about it?

I had a idea for more of a old school look. What about Moon disks? Also what are the lightest steel wheels i can get?For anyone that does not knwo what i mean by Moon disk they are like a hub cap that covers the whole wheel and give it a clean look like you see on old 50's and 40's street rods like Mercuries.
