pretty sure its the same style as the crappy diesel style?
*just went and checked, 16v crank nose and non-TDI crank noses are the same*

Depends on the year. The earlier (non hydro I think?) have a half moon key for the crank sprocket whereas the 16v has the notch.

those are only on SUPER EARLY engines. pretty sure they only came on the 1.5 engine.. and maybe the first year of the 1.6
but ive only seen the woodruff key'd crank on ancient 1.5 diesels..

ETKA shows the switch in '83. Since he said 1.6na I figured he meant MK1.

Crank pully is what I meant not sprocket.
My head is mechanical. Not hydro...
What else..
I was going to get lines to come from the transfer pump, bypassing main pump, into hard lines. But the hard lines come out in the bar on the drivers side, which means id have to run lines under the raintray somehow.
But I was gona run soft lines along the frame.
Im gona check on the 16v pully and see if everything lines up, if it doesn't end up working perfectly ill just loop the power steering until I get the right setup.

if you loosen the steering rack from the firewall, you can pull the hard lines over to the other side and rebend them. then just shorten as needed. Leaving the lift pump in is fine. I left the lift pump in on my Scirocco and its really handy when changing filters or pumps. Definitely bypass the main pump. It causes a restriction, especially under WOT pulls.
I am using a diesel WP pulley and a PS pump pulley on the WP to drive the alt and the PS. I dont recall what the crank pulley came from. Also, you will need a later style alt bracket that has the provision for cars with PS. It has an extra ear on the bottom to attach the aluminum and steel PS brackets to. I had to make up for a lack of spacing with some round stock tubing to fille the gap for the super long 13mm bolt for the PS. HTH

Yeah im gonna end up using the hardlines, I really gota check more into it. I've been so busy worrying about getting everything ready ON the engine and whatnot, but admittedly, been somwhat lazy about prepping the car to drop the motor in....
I have a few friends that have done gas to diesel swaps in mk2s, my buddy is running an AAZ in an 87 jetta coupe. He's using the transfer pump.
I've got another buddy who's doing an alh TDI into a mk2 jetta coupe....
So between the both of them, I've been copying their setups. They're gona helpme take out all the spark related wiring out. So it will be a bit tidier. And wire in glowplug relay.
Im doing some serious work on it ALLLLLL day tomorrow. Im probably gona post some pics up ofthe project.
I was a little overwhelmed at first, not really knowing all that much about diesel stuff, but im starting to somewhat understand the simplicity of it now.
Thanks for all the knowledge guys its appreeshed

Just make sure to route the fuel lines BEFORE you put the engine in

Way easier

I stare at an empty bay each time im in my garage... plan of action tomorrow is jack the back end up on stands, remove pump and accumulator. measure lines ill need. Take hardlines, bend them towards the passenger side. Clean engine bay way more. I have all weekend I just need to stay focused. Usually an easy task. Then ADD kicks in. But I want to get as much done possible. So looks like im locking myself in the garage and blasting slayer.

yea, idk, i know that most of the 1.6 engines ive torn apart, have the notched crank, not the keyed crank. but then again, i havent torn apart many 1.6's, maybe a half dozen..
