a few moar n00b ?s
« on: April 21, 2011, 12:29:02 pm »
1. Waterpump, I have a brand new pump for my corrado g60 with a metal impeller. Are they the same deals for the diesel engine?

2. I have an oil sump baffle from an aba, and the g60. The aba is a bigger one. The g60 one is smaller and goes over the pickup tube. What one should I use, if its beneficial. I also have a "cam saver" oil baffle for the head, should I use that as well? I have an aba oil pump as well, would that be an upgrade I could use with this engine?

3. Pulleys and belts. No ac, but with power steering. What pulleys should I be using for this setup and would a power steering bracket from a 1.8 bolt into the bottom of the block on the 1.6?

4. Fuel lines. Looking to get new ones from the tank to inj pump. And return. What lines would you recommend?

I really appreciate any help, hints, comments, flaming, etc. This is my 1st diesel and I just want to do everything right the 1st time, with the right parts.

1. What year is your diesel engine?

2.Use the ABA unit, it comes with an integrated rubber seal and is superior to the stock g60 unit

3. We need to know what diesel engine you have and what year and model your car is.

4. Why?

Sorry I prob should posted more info on what I gotz.

The engine is 1.6na from an 82 caddy.
The empty hole is an 87 cabriolet. that's why I asked about fuel lines, im taking the main fuel pump and the connecting lines out. Im still going to be using the in tank transfer pump.

Re:#2 the baffle I have isn't that kind with the gasket attached. It is a clip on deal but larger than the g60 one. Ill post pics in a few

Would I be able to use a crank pulley from a 1.8 gasser? So I could use the power steering. Im just wondering if they would line up correctly with the alt+waterpump, and the outer pulley with the power steering pulley.

gasser pullies and diesel pullies have different offset.. the crank sprocket is 6mm wider than a gasser crank sprocket..

im pretty sure you need appropriate diesel pullies..

Some 16v pullies will work as the 16v belt is as wide as the diesel belt.

the water pump pulley specifically is why I asked what year as the center bore on late pullies is much smaller than earlier units.

Ill have to check into the 16v pulleys.
Right now I've got the new waterpump on, using the original pulley. Non ac alt bracket. Everything lines up pretty good, just gota 2x check it and find an apropriate belt.

I think im gona end up looping the power steering for now until I figure the pulley situation out...

Im trying to get everything all hooked up by this weekend.

Im gona end up using the 020 from the cabby(with diesel starter), its not gona be daily driven that much, until I source a more suitable diesel friendly geared box.

Still gota figure out my fuel line situation. wire in a glowplug relay and clean up some of the spark ignition wiring I won't need anymore.

Sorry if im going on ranting, im just stoked this car is getting some attention and will be back on the road sometime soon. its been parked in my garage for a year and a half...

put a manual steering rack on and ditch the PS! It would make belt and pulley situation easier, you could even go with a serp setup. Good to see a diesel vert!

I've only seen 3 other diesel cabriolets. 1 from canukland with an AAZ and 2 with 1.6na.

Im callin her the clackriolet...

I was gona loop the PS I really want to end up using it. Im just trying to finish it kind of quick.....
If its not done by may 9th then I won't be able to drive it til july. My rock band is going on a full US tour. So im trying to get it done.

Ill have to check if any of my broskis have a 16v crank sprocket.

Does anybody have advice on what fuel lines I should run?

There is a 1.6l na cabby in the PNW as well..

The 16v sprocket will not work. Just the pullies.

If you can get viton fuel lines, I would recommend that. mcmastercarr.com sells them.

the pitch of the 16v sprocket is different than the pitch of the diesel sprocket.. have you ever noticed how a 16v has more finer teeth on the belt? our diesels have less bigger teeth.. it just doesnt work.. its like putting a 40 pitch chain on a 50 pitch sprocket..
