What to lube speedo cable with
« on: March 31, 2011, 08:05:36 pm »
My cable is about a year old but on cold mornings it sounds horrible. On the package it said not to lube it but I think I might have accidentally got some wd-40 type stuff in it thus ruining whatever the manufacture put on it.

Has anyone found something that works good?
'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.

Your best bet would likely be something dry, like powdered graphite.  Your local locksmith will sell it, if you can't find it at an auto store.  Good for parts that need lubrication to move very freely even in cold temps and not gum up or attract dirt... locks, tumblers, speedo cables...

i used silicone spray, works just fine as far as i can tell..
92 Jetta GLI - Black, 1.6D w/ GT2056V turbo..
86 GTI - 4 Door, Med Twilight Gray, Tow Machine..
86 Audi Coupe GT - Tornado Red, All Stock.. WRECKED.
89 Toyota 4Runner - Dark Grey Metallic, LIFTED!

Turbo: exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens and you go faster.
