I am currently converting my '83 5000 TD from the 3-spd auto to a 5-spd from a non-turbo 5000. My question goes out to the few 5000 owners still left out there: those of you with manual transmissions (or conversions, preferably), how did you figure out your throttle cable setup? The throttle cable from the factory went to a bellcrank on the side of the automatic transmission, and from there a linkage went up to the pump to move the throttle shaft. Well now that the auto is out, I cannot see a clean, quick way to route a cable directly to the pump. What did you guys do to make it work?
I recently bought a throttle cable from a 1983 Jetta TD (or something like that), just so that I had a factory-looking cable with an appropriate end on it, so it can attach to one of the ball studs on the pump. I modified it to fit the firewall, and now I am going to have to build my own linkages on top of the pump to get a custom throttle setup....it seems to me that this has probably been done before, so I am looking for help from someone who has already dealt with this mess.
I can get pictures up in a day or two to help describe my problem.
Thanks guys,
Matt
I think you need to get a throttle cable from an Audi with a manual tranny. It's a little longer so that it will reach the mechanism above the ip.
