Headlight problem

Here is a weird one. 1984 Jetta, relay'd headlights. Converted the low beams to 90/100w H4's.
Lows and highs are relay'd (H4 highs are coming
lol) Turn on the parking lamp switch selection, all the parking lamps/dash lights/ and city lights in the new H4 beams come on. Turn it to the next selection (headlights) nothing happens. The only way to get the low beams to come on is to give the high beam selector/turn signal handle a flick to high and back. And the lows will come on. and be fine from there.. When you turn the headlights off on the switch the city lights and parking lights and dash lights will go off.. takes another 5-6 seconds for the headlights to turn off... what is going on here? Swapped out relays, same thing.. Headlight switch failure? why does it hold the lights on for 5s after turning the switch off?

Shortly after installing the H4's... but that doesnt make sense.. Because the stock wiring fires the relay's..

If the cooling fan is running when you shut the lights off some times they act as a
generator while spinning without power applied. It back feeds thru every thing
until the fan stops turning.

sounds like you are getting power from a source outside of the circuit, and it is powering your relay.

wouldn't it have been apparent prior to adding relays? the relay feeds are the stock wiring. I dunno its whackk

Have you looked at your wiring? Maybe there is something backwards?

backwards wouldn't work the lights. 30 gets the battery power, whatever pin is across from it (85?) goes to the lights. 86 is switched by stock wiring, and 87 is ground.. or what have you. I cannot recall the numbers.

I know, I did mine shortly after you did yours, but sometimes things get switched around and it is easy to check. I am thinking at the other end of the wires. Maybe somthing is scuffed up or crossed? If you have another HL switch you might try that. If that switch is known good. Maybe the wiring is getting DC bleed through somthing else?
