How much boost with gov mod
« on: March 21, 2011, 07:23:28 am »
How much boost do I have to run to not have any black smoke with this mod? I'm running 1.05 bar with my K14 right now. Is that enough? :)

governor mod has nothing to do with where your max fuel screw is..

either turn your max fuel down till the smoke stops, or up the boost till it doesnt smoke, or something breaks..
92 Jetta GLI - Black, 1.6D w/ GT2056V turbo..
86 GTI - 4 Door, Med Twilight Gray, Tow Machine..
86 Audi Coupe GT - Tornado Red, All Stock.. WRECKED.
89 Toyota 4Runner - Dark Grey Metallic, LIFTED!

Turbo: exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens and you go faster.

It increases fueling though right? So I'll have more fuel than I have now.

it gives more fuel in the upper RPM range.. not just more fuel period..

it basically moves your governor from 4800, to 5600..

normally, a governor will start cutting fuel at 4000rpms, or even before..

and with a governor mod, it provides full fueling till it cant turn anymore rpms..

the fuel screw is what determines the amount of fuel being injected..

If you haven't already check out the link in my signature.

Doing the governor mod will take the governor (thats starts cutting fuel as low as 2800) and basically remove its function. So the limiting factor is the rollers in the pump not having enough spring pressure to push them back on the camplate.

You will probably find even if the smoke screw is at the stock spot, you might have to back it OUT after doing the Gov Mod.

Yeah that's what I thought I initially.

I've read through your gov mod thread and it's really good :) I'm gonna buy myself a used pump to practice on first though.

To do the job here in Norway the local mechanic wants 2-3000 dollars...

Yup.. It's crazy.

He said that as a shop owner he didn't want the responsibility of doing the mod.

so he prices himself out of the job. Geez it would have been about 500 bucks cheaper on the low side of the price to get a Giles pump and just install it.

That's so very true! You just gave me an idea ;)

Maybe I'll buy a pump from him?

That's what my plan is. Much easier to pay to have it done right, and drop it in. I don't do pump voodoo, but I know how to build engines.

I could time my engine myself by just getting a dial gauge. And change the HG and timing belt can't be that hard... There's lots of good links on here :)
