Steering Column
« on: March 18, 2011, 11:22:39 am »
1981 caddy,

I the steering column down by the peddles on the shaft above the u-joint where the turning part goes into the cloumn there is a spacer or type of bearing that is coming out causing the column to rattle. There seems to be a yellow plastic retainer that has slipped out. Can't find any thing in the parts book.
I can push it back up and the rattler stops but it falls down again.

Any Ideas?

You can push it back up there. I see various means to keep it in place: zip tie, radiator clamp, etc.

You can buy them new here:

But, the guy is out of stock at the moment, but he claims he'll have some more in shortly.

all my usual Euro part suppliers have listed that as out of stock for awhile now, several of them list it as NLA now.

Other aftermarket suppliers were getting them from VWOA. VWOA stopped carrying them, so Moogie is importing them directly from Europe. He's sure to be about the only source for new ones from here on out: unless you buy them direct from Europe yourself.

I get from WorldPac (can be had at CarQuest). I bought the last two in the USA last December. I still don't have enough, because I too thought there was an endless supply.

Well that's good to know, I put off buying those last two from worldpac since I thought surely they wouldn't run out, heh..
