• How much faster is a 1.6TD compared to a 1.6NA?
  
  I can't seem to find any Canadian TD's around, but there's tons of the NA's.. how noticeable is the acceleration difference between the two?

• About 16 horsepower (52 HP/71 lbs-ft tq for ME; non-turbo, 68 hp/98 lbs-ft tq for MF; turbo). Acceleration from start isn't overly noticeable, but at 2800 RPM when the turbo kicks in, it's a lot of fun, and definitely noticeable.

• TD has a lot more tuning potential, so if you want to build something get the td, but for a economical driver you can make the NA a lot less slow. I just did the governor mod and some other pump tuning mods for a customer with a old 1.6 NA rabbit with a 4 speed. He can actually ACCELERATE in 4th up a hill now, it is signifgantly faster, getting to 140kmh isn't too hard now either. He is all smiles

  I can't find any diesel Jettas or Golfs in Auto Trader; there's tons of gas ones, but I guess gas prices are reason enough for people to cling to their diesels.

  If you're on the west coast check craigslist, lots of old VWs listed there.  I found my Jetta in the TriAd news for $900

  However, your chances of finding a TD here in the US? Well, OK, if it's a Mercedes, but the VW TDs weren't too common, from what I've seen. Canada's another story, though.

  They're damn rare around here, which isn't cool.
  
  Hell, if I could find one, I'd settle for a TD Passat, but the insurance is crazy.

• guess thats why mine cost me 4300.  I even got the price down 900, damn dealerships.  Oh well, i have no regrets for this car, it has been nothing but a nice ride, except for the disappearing brakes, i gotta get my new master cylinder pretty soon, 22mm, nothing wrong with a little extra brakeing force.  Makes me have to practice not locking up my wheels more, natural ABS as you will.

• You sure your M/C is done? The brakes on diesels are usually a little spongy when you first start them up. Once you've revved up to driving speeds, they should be nice and firm. Have you checked for leaks in your front and rear cylinders?
  
  I usually just replace the rear cylinders as they are like $7.00 each. You have to bleed the brakes again, but if you're hearts-set on putting in the 22mm M/C, you may as well do them too. It'll give you a chance to inspect the rear brake lines.
