Clutch cable mix and match?
« on: March 27, 2011, 05:28:33 am »
Got a bad cable on a '92(mk2) jetta (self adjusted too tight and can't get it to back off). Can't get a new one on a sunday. Anyone know if the cable in a mk3 will fit? Part numbers are different. Transmission end of the cable looks the same, before I crawl under the steering wheel and try to get one out, is the clutch pedal end the same?

mk3 has a ball on the pedal end

mk2 has a hook on the end.

they DO NOT interchange at all..

turn your self adjusting one upside down, and tap the sides of it and work it till it loosens again. they usually always do, just gotta mess with it a bit..

Turbo: exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens and you go faster.

Thanks for the tip. I just went out and flipped up the one in the doner car, shoved it together and caged it. Now if it wasn't so cold I'd install it! :D

like i say, work at the one in your car for a second, disconnect it and turn it upside down, sideways, upright, and just keep working it, they release 99% of the time..

Went out last night and installed the one from the doner car. Worked fine. Played with the other one for a bit, could probably make it work too. No little plastic tie built in to the cable to cage it though. It will go on the shelf, would work in a pinch. Have to get around to some pictures of this project....
