Engine codes...
« on: March 13, 2011, 12:11:25 am »
Is there a good compilation of engine codes & descriptions floating around here or somewhere on the web??  I was thinking a list of them, and some pics of where to find it might not be a bad idea for the FAQ..

i think thats just more of a list of US engine codes.. mostly atleast.
92 Jetta GLI - Black, 1.6D w/ GT2056V turbo..
86 GTI - 4 Door, Med Twilight Gray, Tow Machine..
86 Audi Coupe GT - Tornado Red, All Stock.. WRECKED.
89 Toyota 4Runner - Dark Grey Metallic, LIFTED!

Turbo: exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens and you go faster.

Excellent start.. Macka, I may take you up on a copy of that pdf...     Next step would be to condense that list to just the diesels, and add the information that is most commonly ask, such as "Is this a TD", or "What size are my head bolts"

Yes, no JR, RA or SB engine codes either.

I uploaded this on another forum some time ago (engine codes 1965-1999):

The wikipedia list of VAG engines both in production & out of production is pretty great, bore stroke, comp ratio etc is listed. FAQ section.

I was looking though that one at one point..  Lots of good info there..  I think for my intents, when I get the chance, I'm gonna break it down into displacement, turbo or NA, and head bolt size..  And some links at the end for more info..   A few pics of where to find the code will be included as well, which leaks me to another question, on AAZ's and TDI's, is the block code in the same location as the older whatnot?
