http://www.mk1dubz.com/forums/showthread.php?p=5288I am planning on a 1.6 rebuild and figure this would be a good time to order some pullies. I have these done in CAD now, I just need to place the order.
Would anyone else be interested? I am not making money on this deal, just enough to cover parts and shipping.

i think you are kinda wasting your time really..
i doubt light weight pullies are gonna do squat for you..
if you get even .5 mpg increase, i will be very surprised..
light weight pullies are not where its at, under drive pullies are where you see improvements.
because its taking the engine less power to turn them..

I can agree with that, it is the same as any other car really, but that combined with everything else, each little bit keeps adding.

so, are you going light weight or under drive? cause i would be interested in a set of under drive, but not just OEM size light weight ones..

I might be interested in a set or two. How soon do you need to know?

I lighter flywheel would make a bigger difference and some people even turn the IM shaft down.......fancy pulleys would look cool though.

Sorry. I have to laugh at this. Wait 3 secs for me to get back.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Sorry again. I never thought ANY 4 cylinder car had "bottom end grunt". Come back to me when it can take off at idle with 10k in tow in 1st gear (Granted, it was a granny gear but still a 3.x:1). Then we can talk "bottom end grunt".
I came from the Dodge Cummins world, it is ALL about low end grunt.
Hope I didn't hurt any feelings here...

ok, well i come from the toyota world, everyone knows toyotas dont have torque, so were coming from 2 different places..
and comparing a VW idi 1.6, to a cummins 12v, thats absurd..
sure, if the VW was set up to tow, it could, no doubt in my mind..
but the high first gear, and high final drive, not even close to good for towing..
if you take a 1.6 gasser rabbit, and a 1.6 TD rabbit.. the TD is going to have some bottom end grunt. the gasser will have none..
(x2 about nobody cares about your dodge pickup)
i know im not butthurt, i just had to point out that comparing the towing capacity of a VW car to a dodge pickup is RIDICULOUS!

and if we really want to get into bottom end grunt, the 2006 Chevy Duramax 1 ton sitting in my driveway would pull the frame right out from under your dodge

...........
Even a 1.6 NA will have more bottom end grunt than ANY similar size gasser. VW 1.8 gassers actually have enough idle power to let it idle in 1st gear to get out and push when stuck, they quit though as soon as it gets traction. Diesels do it waaaay better though. I know the Japanese cars I've driven can't nearly do that, they die as if you shut the key off.
I think this is rather far off topic.

Lighten the FW & it'll idle like a bag of hammers in a dryer.
