Oil Pressure/Oil temp install questions
« on: March 10, 2011, 01:10:54 pm »
hey guys i am in the process of doing a 1.6 TD swap into my suzuki samurai and had few questions.  I bought a angled oil filter plate from jeff at Acme. it has 2 holes in it. 1 for the sensor and 1 for the turbo.

The problem im running into is sensors =[  i want to install oil pressure and oil temp off that sensor hole. and run the factory idiot light to the one on the head.

does anyone know if there is a gallery plug i can put one sensor? or do i have to find a bunch of Tees and fittings to make it work?
I'm having a hard time finding a M10x1.0 to 1/8npt coupler. I think im gonna use the sunpro 1/8x1/8x1/8 tee

Thanks a lot.

metric and NPT are the same thread pitch, one is just tapered (npt)

Turbo: exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens and you go faster.

so i can stick the 1/8 sensor in the hole? it felt a little tight after the first few threads and i didn't feel like forcing it any.

it felt tight because its actually tightening up..

M10x1.0 (oil pressure sender thread size) and 1/8 npt are the same basic threads.

M10 is a straight thread. NPT is tapered threads..

so when you put tapered threads in a straight hole, it still tightens up and doesnt leak..

use teflon thread tape just because...

Incidentally, I thought the VWs of our era that came with oil pressure gauges had the sending unit for it in the head.

I would think it gives a better indication of engine oil pressure than a spot right next to the oil pump.

R 1/8  9,73 -Outside diameter of outside thread
8,6 -Inside diameter of inside thread
28 -number THREAD in mm on 1"

M10X1 10 Outside diameter of outside thread
9,0 Inside diameter of inside thread
I am not shure but all R are conical,M are not
I`ll improve my English

fyi.. cannot do temp sensor in a t... gotta have oil flow past it.. else it will not read temp right

so use the head with a t for both pressure aka light and gauge..

CRSMP5  that makes sense. I think i will run Oil pressure off the filter adapter. and Oil temp off the one in/near the head ( i haven't seen my engine yet so i don't know where or what size and thread the hole is)  unless you think it should be the other way around.

As far as the factory idiot light i just won't use. i figure will those 2 monitoring i won't need it.

thanks lots guys

no.... oil no flow past one on head.. its at the end of a oil passage..

so fileter gets temp and head gets pressure.. and if you spend extra on the gauge sender for pressure you can buy one with a idiot light sensor built in..
