There is a thread or two about the IM bearings. I think the first post had them in the one I looked at. If I find it I will let you know. I think I just searched IM shaft bearing part # but don't remember.

Here is what Lucas forwarded to me just last weekend:

I ordered a set to have on hand from O'Reilly's auto parts......$19 (for pre-reamed set). I used the Federal Mogul number.

metal leeve = ream to fit
clevite = just right
durabond = too big
I'm pretty sure I have that right.
Clevites fit great.
I think it was durabond that fit loosely on the I-shaft, before it was installed.
Installing them in the block made them fit tighter,.. about right.
I had a set of ,.. pretty sure it was metal leeve, that wouldn't fit over the I-shaft, had to be reamed.
I put them in the 1.7TD.

Dura Bond makes them. Part # VWG1 about $15.00 and no reaming required like the old VW ones.

The MK1 Bently actually says to replace the engine block of the IM shaft bearings are bad
Don't have a MK2 book, and Alldata doesn't really touch on the IM shaft too much.. From personal experience, all the IM shaft bearings other than Clevite have required some degree of reaming.. The fact that the Clevite didn't require reaming surprised my machinist...
Ranking doesn't mean you know crap.. The local guy from
GERMANY
who runs an import shop bends cam sprockets on 1.6's all the time..
Ten pus years of ejumkashon and everyday is still a learning experience...

There's a lot of incredibly smart people on here and Vortex, but the smartest ones are the ones that realize they don't know it all..

Partplace sells both ream to fit and pre fit IM bearings. Idk what the brands are but I do know that durabond, clevite and sealed power are sold as pre fit.
I've never seen ream to fit anywhere but partsplace.

'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.
I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.
