I think he was refering to the 1.8l mk3, which europe/canade got, not usa.

NOPE, sure not talking about the ACC
92 Jetta GLI - Black, 1.6D w/ GT2056V turbo..
86 GTI - 4 Door, Med Twilight Gray, Tow Machine..
86 Audi Coupe GT - Tornado Red, All Stock.. WRECKED.
89 Toyota 4Runner - Dark Grey Metallic, LIFTED!

Turbo: exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens and you go faster.

Bugsy, a lot of odd stuff you mention there, I think sadly all your info is relevant to europe only, not us(a).

well the GTi serp conversion I only know about on the diesel because of surfing VWvortex!

as for the other pulley items I think thats more to going to a Junk yard and having a look!

I realised what a Geo tracker is now after going on wikipedia, its a suzuki Vitara! my dad had one over here (1600 petrol) and I know its fairly common to stick a vw diesel in them, I know later ones also came as a diesel.

I cant help but think the main crank pulley bolts on a bit like the vw diesel though?

1.8t crank pulley is the right depth already, no need to shave off 6mm..

He is talking about 1.8T.
1.8T (turbo) engines started in the MK4's 99+
MK3 1.8l engines where naturally aspirated

exactly.. the 1.8t 30v 4 banger..

it takes a fatter timing belt, like the 16v engine. but has a harmonic balancer like the ABA.. then you dont have to take and shave the ABA balancer..

86 GTI - 4 Door, Med Twilight Gray, Tow Machine..

All,

Fatter timing belt = 5+ ribs?  I can only use a 4 rib, or 4 rib + v belt.  I have found that a 95 Kia Sportage has 2 v belt slots and a 4 rib serpentine.  May have to try this to see if it works.....

The 1.8 engine I was refering to was the european 1.8 mk3 golf. Which is a steel pulley unlike the GTi which has an alloy pulley.

I was having a think, with regards to the tracker stuff, would it not be easier to use the water pump pulley from the tracker (get a golf GTi one for your current engine) and bolt that to the crank? I have the odd feeling the traker water pump has a 4 screw fitting anyway, not sure if it lines up with the vw holes mind. Then you would just need the V-belt accessory pulley. alternatively have you tried the 4 rib on a 5 rib pulley? it cant hurt to have more ribs than you need!

As for offset, this is something to be ignored to somewhat with the accessories your fitting as you can make the brackets to suit the offset you need.

So really you just need a crank/waterpump pulley from a TDi mk3 golf or something?
