  I have an AAZ 1.9TD in a 1982 Westy and I have been reading about the crank nose failure.  I am interested in what AAZ owners are doing, have done and what they thing about this problem.

• Use the search function. The best solution is the TDI crank sprocket. You'll have to mill the nose to make it fit. Couple that with a clutched Alternator pulley and you'll never worry about it again.

• switch to an old v belt setup and it won't be a problem haha

  I have done quite a bit of searching using 'aaz and crank' and there are some great and scary posts.  I started this tread to get a feeling of how prevelant this problem is.  I have no doubt about the catastrophic nature of the failure, but I wonder how many people know about it or have been effected by it.
