Question about boost vs fuel
« on: March 04, 2011, 01:12:29 pm »
I tightened the BOV screw down as far as I could instead of blocking it all off, and the butt dyno is telling me I've lost some power. I take it I need to increase fuel a bit to gain back that power? I do not have an egt installed right now, I just want to make it run good with slightly higher boost. Intuition tells me to adjust fuel screw to give me just enough to see a little smoke and leave it there. Correct?

Also, Vincent, I used your advice for checking for leaks (per another post) and it works great! You da man!

turn in the smoke screw, doesn't seem to affect egts too much on stock pump/motor.

Libby, my bad, you are right. I just went through that on another post, but super mechanic at the garage told me different today, and I completely forgot that was more of a safety thing. Either way, something changed. All I've done is changed glow plugs, I blocked that recirculation tube off, turned the screw in on the bov, and changed a valve cover gasket. The car seems to run different, feel a real lag on top, trouble getting the rpm's up in 5th, when before it wasn't so bad. Dirty injector(s)?

too much boost for a given amount of fuel results in less power..

probably talking about the tube coming off the boost protection valve on the intake manifold, it recirculates the intake air back into the intake boot if the turbo is making too much boost.
