WTB engine pan - sound baffle
« on: February 21, 2011, 07:14:54 pm »
I want to get a sound baffle or engine pan.  Belly pan sometimes referred to.  P/N 191 805 681 dealer says no longer available.  Does anyone have a source?   Can I use one from a Mk 3?

The idea is that it will help quiet down the rattle.

I'd put a sound deadener on that and then install it.

I have one but I've never ran the car, I'll probably run it without the pan first while I take care of all the little problems that are sure to arise and then I'll glue sound deadener foam on the pan and install it. I can report back but no guarantee on when that'll happen.

'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.

those plastic skid plates are more rare than hens teeth and muffler bearings..

Turbo: exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens and you go faster.

I have one of those plastic engine covers, that covers the whole entire engine/transmission. Took it off my car when I first got it to do work on it and never put it back on. Its in my garage.

I called the dealer today and I can get one for a mk 3 but it is steep.  Thanks for the lead on the AL plate but I am looking more for encapsulation than protection.  Would the mk 3 fit close?
Coke are you offering to sell?  I'll pm you.

Does anybody have a source other than the dealer for new pans, plastic or steel?  Local dealer wants $273 for one for the mk3.  The one from euro-ebay won't ship international.  Maybe I can fab one up out of light guage Aluminum.  Local junk yards just laugh when I called.
