All,

Just wondering.......the VW 1.6 IDIs have a Bosch rotary on them. This is similar to the Cummins 4BT and 6BT. Would a Denny T fuel pin work in the VW Bosch rotary pumps? The Cummins Bosch have a cone pin similar to the VW Bosch pin but an aftermarket Denny T works.  Just wondering if this applies to the VW Bosch.  A lot of other parts interchange......what do you think?  If it did, would be a heck of an upgrade!

it might work in an AAZ pump, because they have a bigger boost pin bore. idk if it will work in a 1.6 pump tho..

The denny T pin will work in the 1.6 td pumps as well but the problem with this style of pin is the lack of adjustment.  You get the choice of one ramp compared to the cone style.  The problem I see with denny T fuel pin is the ramp is also cut too far into the pin.  The lda pin inside the pump that rides on the fuel pin does not travel that far into the bore.  

I made my own pin similar to this Denny T pin but mine was made specifically for the 1.6 td pump top to be used on an mtdi setup.  I have never tried it on a 1.6td engine but my guess is it would fuel too much under boost.

There was a guy who compared a DennyT Stage 2 vs a ground stock pin back to back on a dyno. There was no difference. Not to take away from DennyT and his amazing innovation but those were the results...

I'd agree that max power can be achieved with any boost pin or even none at all.  What a good boost pin does is control fueling levels according to how much boost the engine is getting.  
Before I started work on my lda, fueling was so excessive before the boost kicked in that I could actually make the engine stumble when I floored it.  After installing my boost pin and doing other mods to the lever inside the lda, I could adjust pre boost fueling so there would be no smoke at all.  When boost starts building fueling would increase proportionately.  I ended up with a powerband that felt like a 2 stroke.

Also it has been brought to my attention that some lda's use a 11mm diameter boost pin.  I've never seen it but I'd like to here from others about this.  All the ones I've seen have been 12mm.  I wonder if these pins are from the ada's?

lol, told ya some of the early 1.6 pumps had smaller bores! 8)

What about the Rover 220TD pin ? Any try that ?? Or even putting in the Cummins " Old Smokey " pin ??

DennyT is the new Ole Smokie/Bullydog fuel pin in the Cummins world, just Denny makes them (Ole Smokie doesn't anymore) out of hard material (Bullydogs wear a groove in them in short order) with great customer service. Also M&H has 4-5 different profiles whereas DennyT only has 2.

Take some grease and put it on the ramp of the pin. Now go for a drive and get as much boost as you can. Pull the pin and notice how high the pin rides on the cone. Now grind the top 50%  down to your desirable power. Make it a nice ramp to just below the bottom of the mark. If you go too far, you will leak diesel into the cone area.
