leeg thumbs up

reminds me of the time i was pulling down some alley in the city and some passer bys were crossing the street at the same time, i was about 10 feet away and at a creep about read to stop when the one girl decided to get an attitude about nothing (i guess she was showing off for her friends) she said to me sicne my window was down "you better not hit me" in a ***y tone.  so when i pulled out i put the go pedal to the floor and left a big cloud of smoke for them all to choke on.  hehehe i love my car.

OK,here's my experience.
I'd just bought my first new diesel, a 1984 Jetta GL with leather. It was a beauty. One morning, at a motel in Amherst, Nova Scotia, it was uncharacteristically cold at -16. I went out early to start the car and let it warm up while I packed. I'd just got back to my room when there was a frenzied pounding on the door. I opened the door to find a man dressed in a bathrobe and slippers (in -16 temperatures) screaming "turn your car off quick...it's gonna blow up !!!" I patiently explained that it was a diesel and they were a little noisy on startup. He exclamed "You mean it's SUPPOSED TO sound like that???" I assured him it was and he went back to his room shaking his head.
In 1998, I bought one of the first GLS TDI New Beetles and was repeatedly stopped at the gas pumps by an attendant screaming "Stop-Wait, you're putting diesel fuel in that car"

That's great.     I've been asked "do you think it's time to check your valve clearance?" etc, but I like the blow up one. 8)

LeeG reminded me of when I was delivering for Domino's 15 yrs ago in my '81 1.6 NA Rabbit. Another guy had a CRX and we both got our orders at the same time going initially, the same way.  I was 1st out of the parking lot with a hard right onto the street, burning rubber with him damned near attached to my rear bumper doing the same  . A 100 yards later we made the next right, where I gained some ground by drifting it  :D . Then, at the next block we turned right again. I lugged 5th (purposely  !) in the corner, damned near looked like I burnt the whole tank-full in one shot, grabbed 2nd and shot (well, it seemed like I did  ) to the next red-light.  I was stopped in the LH straight lane when he pulled up in the L turn lane beside me. As he rolled down his passenger side window, smoke (mine  ) rolled out from inside his car. He said next time I smoke him, how 'bout holding back on the smoke! I replied, it's the ONLY way I could smoke him in this car!!
The manager always gave us hell for not mounting our car-signs. Would he really want that kind of image?!

Not a reaction to *MY* diesel, but...

A cow-orker of mine is anti-diesel. Don't ask me why.

She believes me that my car gets about 50 MPG, and that an equivalent gasser gets about 30.

However, she knows someone with a Ford Excursion PSD. Gets about 20 MPG hwy, she claims - that's about right.

She also says that she knows someone with a Ford Excursion V10 gasser. She says that because diesel costs more than gasoline, the V10 gasser therefore gets 25 MPG.

She says that it all works differently because an Excursion is a big SUV, and a Jetta is a compact car.

So, do the laws of physics change because the Excursion is three or four tons, and the Jetta is one ton?

*cough*bull****cough*

Keep in mind, these numbers are all US gallons, not imperial.

I mean, maybe the V10 can get 25 IMPERIAL if it went 35 miles per hour the whole way...

Well....  I have a small schoolbus (12,600 lbs) with a GMC 350 carbureated gas engine.  I get about 6mpg on the highway... hence why it's been parked for two years.  My friend has a full sized school bus with the International DT466.  21,000 lbs.  It gets about 9mpg highway running on dumpstered fryer oil.

Soooo, I'd say that the arguement that diesel isn't an advantage for heavier vehicals, just doesn't hold up...
