Registration's back up! YAY (just bought an 81 Rabbit)

81 Rabbit
1.6 IDI (of course)
3+E transmission (shifter knob worn off, but I read the ID Plate, it's a GP)
Factory Air (a necessity in Oklahoma)
fairly clean, but bought it 3/4 the way thru a restoration, so the interior is mostly ripped out (seats are still in and good)
Was repainted from tan to some kind of maroon with sparkles (but not overtly sparkly)

So, I'm new here, I'm glad to finally be able to register/post.

I'll second that "YAY"!  I've been reading here since I got my first diesel (a '96 Golf TD) last week.

I have been bugging Vince with my concerns, and gentleman that he is, he's been helping me.  I'm so grateful that you have opened up registration again.  After reading threads in this and other forums night after night, I have to say that you guys seem to be one of the friendliest, most knowledgeable bunch on the web for older 'dub owners.

And you're my kinda guys... keeping the older beasties tuned and running!

So I've got a 4-door Golf TD with 340K on it, a very well-maintained body, and a turbo that doesn't seem to kick in until about 2800 rpm.  If I can find a weather combination of winds less than 50kph and temperature above -10, I'll be putting a boost gauge in, but for now, it's running smooth, not eating fuel or oil, and not blowing smoke (until I put my foot in it in 4th).

Hi All!

I 3rd that yay! I have been browsing this forum for months, since I picked up my '95 Golf IDI with a broken timing belt. The information on this forum has been invaluable to me. Even bought a cylinder head out of the classifieds, although I had to use a 3rd party person that was already a member.  Thanks Vince!

So my beast is a 1995 Golf GL IDI 5 speed, 136k. To get it on the road took a cylinder head, timing belt, tensioner, transmission (had a huge hole in it) and a new clutch. Now for  the fun! Just ordered a boost gauge, EGT gauge, oil pressure gauge & an a-pillar pod. Next I'll be learning how to up the boost & "whack" the pump!

4th YAY!

Started an engine swap last year,could REALLY have done with this forums help back then! 

Got an AAZ that (I think) needs a new head gasket, but it's not in a VW anymore.
