Passat Diesel Conversion
« on: February 01, 2011, 08:38:50 am »
Okay so I'm thinking of retiring my 94 IDI jetta and doing a 2000-ish Passat diesel conversion. (Not a fan of the looks of the earlier ones) I do have a 1.9 IDI that I'm building up performance wise that I wish to use as the transplant. Would anybody know what perils I might encounter in doing such a swap. I do have the donor car that the soon to be rebuilt motor came out of for any diesel related parts that I may need. Most Passats I see are auto's so I'll be wanting to change that too to a 5-speed.
Any thought, advise appreciated.

Thanks.

in my parking lot.. :D

border of 44473 and 44505.. vienna/liberty ohio..

im still waiting on the title.. i expect to have it in april..

the po decided he could go another 2 miles after the no op light came on and did not make it.. so he took it apart.. got a used engine.. aka 1.8t.. spent some coin rebuilding it and such.. then never put it back together.. so sat for almost 2 years... and well moved to az last week and i ended up with a basket case passat...

i could put it back together as a 1.8t pretty easy.. but value.. good day 2500 as a 1.8t.. 1.9tdi id say 6-7k... and IMO much more fun to build.. sadly it not a wagon or i might would have had to kick self in ass and build my tdi-m for it... but that set up needs to end up in my 84 coupe.. plan to keep that...

passat sedan.. needs sold.. id actually like to sell my service to make it a tdi.. :D so i think 3-4k.. and someone supplies the tdi swap they would have a hell of a nice 00 passat tdi.. i can even do a idi swap for less.. idi only requires simplistic wiring vs tdi stuff..

i got a 1.6td b3 passat i just love.. its a wagon.. and for the life of me still cannot figure out how it pulls off 40mpg fully loaded and still will run 70-80 all day no issues.. one of the best running stock 1.6td that ive ever owned/drove.. someday ill gilles a pump for it..

a for op and his questions.. passat needs to be a 1.8t version.. pre 01 still uses the old style block set up like a mk3.. so mounts and stull will be direct bolt on.. :D along with oil pan and such..

the alt bracket will need some creative time.. passat alt is where fuel pump is.. so a non ac serp set up required.. some figiding on the power steering.. the water pump has a split pully for a v belt.. but realism is that the mk3 pump will probaly be easier to use with those brackets.. and it can adjust the belt..

the oil return off the turbo is built into the pan.. so something will need a mod.. depend on turbo used.. the passat one is much larger though.. just not sure if i can get away with a tdi exhaust manifold yet.. have not spent any mock up time on it at all..

the 1.8t has a cat off the turbo then down pipe off the cat.. so some fudging there and some ic pipe fudging and coolent hose fudging too.. but thats all IMO simple stuff..
