Straight Pipe ALH
« on: January 23, 2011, 06:58:16 pm »
So I'm thinking of putting a straigh pipe on the TDI, The Cat has already been removed Just the muffler left. In New Brunswick we don't have emissions testing, and the Turbo does count as a muffling device.

Whats the Stock size of pipe on the ALH so I can order the pieces I need

well, and the fact that VNT turbos are quiet in terms of actual engine exhaust noise, but they SCREAM..

they really whistle alot for a little turbo. i run my VNT with an open downpipe. lol. its not even loud. you can talk to your passenger going 70 without screaming at them.

Turbo: exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens and you go faster.

i had an actual 2.5" straight pipe on my black rabbit. it had the VNT also. it was so quiet with pipe all the way back, you could just hear turbo scream at idle, no exhaust noise really.

That guys video didn't sound any different from a stock TDi, lmao. Its the thought though right?

I dunno if opening up the exhaust will really help any with performance.. As I think it is the intake that is more of a constriction on the ALH. Not to mention your still running stock turbo DP.

It will most certainly increase turbo whine though ;)
Still support %100 :p

You'll be very happy with it straight piped! I have 2.25" from the turbo back and it sounds awsome! Especially at higher revs. On the plus side, it's not too loud, it's quit enjoyable!

I did 3" straight back. The only comment I got was today. I had a guy from work follow me Friday and today he was in front of me. He said "your car sounds a lot better with a new muffler" Must be pretty loud from behind :D

Well tomorrow I'm going down to the auto parts shop and picking up some piping and going to hack off the muffler this week, I'm keeping the muffler in Good condition since if it gets too anoying as a straight pipe i can put it back together(i do alot of highway)

I think no muffler with the cat is a good sound. No cat no muffler became to loud for me. I had mine like that for 200k miles. But I love the sound of it no with 3inch exhaust and an aaero xl muffler. You hear it when you get on it. I dont miss the loudness at all.

I had a straight pipe 2.5 before and it was a bit annoying after 5 to 6 hours in the car, but i don't think stock should be too bad,
