siezed my engine last night...

so, my engine siezed up on me last night, at about 100 mph.. pushing about 25 psi.. then i started losing power. F###!!!
throw the clutch in, start coasting just before it fully locked up.. got to my buddies house, and to my surprise it started back up..
but now it rattles considerably more (not from the rotating assy) and has a pretty good miss (or 2) at idle..
im aware the engine needs pistons/rings/re-bore.. but is it gonna mess it up much more if i keep driving it? it still runs, doesnt get hot, but it misses like a mofo when its cold or idling.. and now it smokes, like the oil rings are wasted.
apparently you can have dangerous high EGTS, with no smoke at all..

Sounds almost like the cam gear slipped. Are you sure the timing didn't move?

it siezed up on me. if i would have been slower on the clutch, it would have been skidding the front tires.
took about 2 seconds to go from full power to completely dead. i felt it losing power hard. it wouldnt start up after it siezed. but once i let it sit for a second it ran again. took lots of cranking. but it fired. and this morning when i fired it up, it ran on about 1.5 cylinders..
i know the timing is perfect, and havent even checked it.
i know the compression is dismal, and havent checked that either..
you can tell it has low compression on one or more cylinders..
and about the only way i could afford an AAZ, is if i sold everything i owned. no way on this planet an AAZ is going in there unless i can find one close for a few hundred bucks..

thank you Gee-Bee! you just reminded me that i know where there is an AAZ, very locally! now to try and get it out of the old german guy who has it.. that could be a chore!

You need to take it apart to see what went wrong.
Continuing to drive it could do lots of damage depending what happened.

well, its already screwed up.. plain and simple.. how could it get much worse? if i lose the bottom end its no big deal. its just a crappy old 11mm CS vanagon engine.. if somethings wrong, it needs pistons/rings/re-bore. i cant afford that right now..
anyway, wish me luck, im going to try and work my magic.. i located an AAZ (i think)

Well if it spun a bearing it could ruin the rods to keep running it. Or it could sieze again and put a rod through the block...

its not the bottom end.. bottom end still sounds great. if anything, it sounds like it has piston slap.
witch would make sense from sticking the pistons in the bores.. ie: getting it way too damn hot.
has loads of blow by also. used to have none. lacks bottom end power like it used to have.
and i found out that a local DOES have an engine laying around. was supposedly the spare for his caddy, and it has an AAZ in it. whatever it is, AAZ or 1.6, it definitely has a turbo on it tho.
im going to find out more about the engine when he gets home, i only talked to his wife about it.. and she said he has one, and is pretty sure he would sell it.
im hoping its an AAZ! it would make a great engine for my Jetta coupled to the ACN trans i have..

Just have a look at it. If the valve cover bolts down around the outside, it's NOT an AAZ...

How can you tell if it's smoking at 100mph?

well, it would clean up all visible signs of smoke at about 4 psi boost.. after that it just pulled, no smoke. im going from previous experience. only time i saw smoke, was when you would give it alot of throttle with low rpms, and be off boost..

i dunno k3vo lotta If's and Maybe's, but no definitive stuff lol .
it'd be a shame for that VNT to ingest a piece of engine though..

its a 1Y i think. its a 1.9 n/a...
he wants 1100 bucks for it, and it needs a head. he got it hot.
says its got less than 10k miles on it.
but i dont think 1100 bucks is a very good deal for a long block. or am i wrong?
