Which tranny with modified AAZ?
« on: December 22, 2010, 12:37:32 pm »
Code           1st          2nd          3rd          4th           5th          Final           Closeness index

AGS           3.46          1.94        1.29         0.91         0.75         3.94               5560.8
AWY          3.46          1.94        1.44         1.13         0.89         3.94               9306.26
CHD           3.46          1.94        1.28         0.91         0.75         3.67               3860.37

AUG           3.46          1.94        1.44         1.13         0.89         3.67               6490.79

I have these gearboxes to choose from for 1.9TD fmic with giles pump and a K24 turbo. Which gearbox would be best suited with my setup. I am looking for the one with highest top speed on 205 55 R15 wheels.

Any help is appreciated.

I did a chd with a  3.67 / .71 from a Code FF with a peloquin

just humm's along at 80 mph

I wish I had a 3.42 Ring and pinon thou....

The peloquin gives no torque steer , better cornering

Thanks for the reply.

Leaving out the CHD, what would be the second best tranny for top speed? I have the chd in my other golf which I reckon I wont take out of it when the time comes.

How would the AUG be? Its from some petrol engine. I really dont get all these ratios n all.

BTW the 1.9 in ur signature.. how bhp is it putting out?

AGS is gonna be the one you want for top speed..

AUG/AWY is the one you want for acceleration..

you dont really get top speed and acceleration tho, not in one trans.. the AUG/AWY has a much lower top speed than the other ones. the AUG is only slightly better than the AWY. but neither are ideal for a diesel. but are fun for rippin thru the gears and keeping the turbo spooled. if it was a track car, you would want the AWY.

i personally would go with the CHD or AGS, they will keep your cruising rpm down..

86 GTI - 4 Door, Med Twilight Gray, Tow Machine..
86 Audi Coupe GT - Tornado Red, All Stock.. WRECKED.
89 Toyota 4Runner - Dark Grey Metallic, LIFTED!

Turbo: exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens and you go faster.

I have a 1.6 with an AGS that I got a 3.67 gear set in it. It has nuts at 80 in 4th and 5th. I think there is too big a gap between 1st and 2nd, but there isn't much choice in those gears. I also went with the 80% kit. I didn't have the $ for the peloquin, but the 80% kit works well. I also had to put 100mm flanges on the trans to do the 80% kit and then the CV's to go with that. You can use the 80% kit with the peloquin and from what I read it comes with the ARP bolt kit or used to...that would be the way to go.

I'm pretty sure CHD was stock for the 1.9 in MK3s.

AGS would work too, but you'll run out of gears at about 85-90.

AWY is a f*cking TURD!

I bet the AUG with a 3.67 R&P and a .71 5th swap would be fun.

I have a CHD in Jezebel.  Terrific highway transmission, only so-so around town.  Driving in the city spend a lot of my time in 2nd.  The steep gearing doesn't pull too well off the line, but get up to 80 km/h plus and you've got a whole lot of gear to play with.

AUG comes factory with 3.67 gears, but a .89 5th gear. i wouldnt like an AUG with a tal 5th tho. it would be a huge jump into 5th gear. cause its a big jump into 5th gear on my ACN.. and i have a taller 4th, and slightly shorter 5th..

Kid I bought my newest Jetta 1.6TD dropped in an AWY for pizza delivery.
He thought it was the cats meow.
Driving highway 120 km hour at 3600 rpm : not good for longevtity
Will look at my pile of trannies and get a better ratio soon.

I know what a peloquin is but whats an 80% kit??

I can swap in a 3.67 gear set from mu AUG into my AGS.. would that do? I have the 100mm flanges and cv joints lying around.

Swaping the 3.67 gear set from my AUG into AGS is giving me a CHD pretty much!!

Although not exactly the same, I run an AUG with 0.75 fifth in my 85 horse gas engine.
I ended up liking it much more than I ever thought. The closer ratios in 1 through 4 don't really seem all that close.
There would be somewhat of a pause in boost between 4th and 5th, but I am not sure it would be all that annoying in reality. Depends on how you drive, I guess.
Just another option for you.
The mask and the shot(s) are actually an IQ test. If you are wearing or circulating, you just failed the test. I can't feel sorry for you.
