T3 w/ gas exhaust and TDI intake
« on: January 06, 2011, 10:12:22 pm »
I'm in the process of collecting parts to bolt a T3 to an 8v gas T3 exhaust manifold, and if I can't locate a suitable 1.6 turbo intake, I plan on using the TDI intake manifold. I know the TDI manifold uses D ports, but I'm not running a turbo pump, or high boost. Kinda like an eco diesel setup.

Will there be any issues bolting a TDI intake to the engine with the 8v t3 gas manifold?  I'm thinking something like this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/VW-8V-CAST-IRON-TURBO-EXHAUST-MANIFOLD-GOLF-JETTA-T3-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQfitsZMakeQ3aVolkswagenQQhashZitem4155adfe29QQitemZ280610340393QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories#ht_1677wt_939

Intake would be this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/New-VW-TDI-Intake-Manifold-Golf-Jetta-IV-99-04-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem4cf44ef554QQitemZ330516329812QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories#ht_1240wt_1165

The exhaust ports seem slightly wider than the diesel ports (metal material outside of the ports themselves) and I'm wondering if there will be some interference issues that might need modification to get the manifolds to bolt up correctly.

Now, I'm fairly certain after the turbo is bolted on that I should still have some room between the turbo and the firewall. Albeit, not much, but some, right? Anyone else ran a similar setup that has any advice on clearance issues?  Thanks in advance.

get a 1.9 aaz intake and exhaust ( K14) same as T2/T3

You can always run a 1.9 head

Ebay germany is a good start

you might pay 85.00 for both, shipping 65.00

Options intakes

PD130 inlet LH , easier to to mod for intercooler
PD150 faces RH

Either way you will have to get a race pipe ( egr delete )to make any of the tdi or pd series to work

I hope you get things that fit , save time and money

The T3 won't want to bolt to that manifold. Not the VW T3 anyway. It has a trapizodial shape.

This is from a 300D benz. And, from what I can see, its alot larger. It clears, but doesn't leave much room.

I'm in the process of installing a similar setup except I have a Gilesified turbo pump, t3 from a bmw 524td and I'm running a g60 manifold with one of these http://www.bahnbrenner.com/vw_audi/products/1949/MkII_T_Body_Adaptor_to_3 adaptors. Why not just run an 8v gasser manifold? You may have to do some "trimming" to fit it with the turbo but they're readily available in the junkyard and the ports line up.
