The seat under the heat shield in no. 1 has got a notch burnt in it. I have an 84 1.6td from a Jetta planted in a caddy. Can the seat for the heat shield be repaired in-car (dremel, cutter bit,...)? I'm stuck right now with the injectors out.
Fixed my head. Used an old heat shield and a dowel to make a cutter. Screwed the heat shield to the end of the dowel w/ a dime sized piece of 80 grit belt sander paper covering the bottom of the rig. Went through about a dozen dime papers but it worked. The heat shield kept the shape about right, and the paper did the work. Sealed it right up.
Good to hear that you fixed it, I have seen a lot of threads in the past wondering if there is a fix for that problem, now if it happens to me I will know what to do

how did you get the metal filings and pieces of sand out? or did you just start it and let them get blown out the exhaust?
