1.9TDCOUPEstripped
« on: December 01, 2010, 07:20:56 pm »
I haven't contributed much lately on here so I thought I would share a few pics of my car.  I spent last winter swapping my 1.9 into a big door coupe from a 4 door.  My plan was to make it minimalist and economical.  I only put back in what I thought "needed" to be there and this is what I came up with.  It isn't pretty, but it gets the job done for me.  It weighs less than a ton with me in it and a 1/4 tank of fuel.  I fabricated the intercooler stuff while the turbo was rebuilt by Tom Barnhart (foxracer1).  The crazy Canadian man built my pump also and that is about it as far as performance goes.  My dad bough the motor new which now has about 65K on it.  It is an ADG code engine.  New suspension components, steering components, prothane bushings all around, and new coilovers.  I cut the raintray out and smoothed some other pieces and gave the bay a crappy paint jerb.  No heat, defrost, windshield wipers, etc.  I drove it until it snowed!  Custom short shifter, handmade v-banded 2.5" downpipe(no exhaust). Thanks for all the help here at the forum, you guys are great!

Holy crap! How's your hearing  :o ? exhaust like that around naked steel must reverberate like mad.  With that rain tray gone that's a nice open canvas to make a cold air "funnel" for your intake. I don't think that engine bay paint job looks crappy; consider that with dirt road travelling and regular diesel grime building up in there you can just power wash it clean without feeling guilty about shredding off a paint job that took serious effort and cash  ;)

Cheers,

My turbo keeps it quiet and thanks for the paint job compliment, you should check out the driver side fender... :P  I like to keep it simple.
