gasser to AAZ diesel swap (MK3 GOLF)
« on: November 28, 2010, 09:25:59 pm »
starting a fresh post, Any questions here will be ones that have me stuck and have brought me to a grinding halt or at least slowed me down.  I am swapping an AAZ from a donor  mk3 golf into a gasser mk3 golf.
right now i am stuck with a couple things.

A) The gasser has no engine or tranny in it but a few items were left when i bought it.  It has shifter and cables from what used to be a hydraulic clutch.  mine that i will be swapping over is the old school shifter.  I need to know if I need to swap the entire pedal assembly from the donor golf into the gasser shell?  From what i can see, the gas pedal and the clutch pedal look different between the two golfs.

B) Do I need to swap the brake booster and master cylinder from the aaz golf over to the gasser shell?  They look the same except that the gasser resevoir has a hose from it that I am assuming was for the clutch.

Thanks guys, I am hoping that someone will know the answers to my questions so I can keep a good pace going on this swap.  I will be posting more I am sure, and yes, I am searching for the answers, so anything I post is something I cannot find a specific answer to.

swap the pedal assy

Booster will attach to vac pump on the AAZ

You might want to purchase a Bosch glow plug relay kit, it will attach to the hot side of the ignition circut
it will turn on for seven sceonds and than off for starrtup, I think it will be easier than doing a wiring harness swap
it's around 87.00 and includes new glowplug's and relay that you will mount to the firewall

have fun

My $.02 - I'd rather be looking for a 02A tranny as it will bolt right (not VR6 tranny) up to the AAz block, an have substanially more power that can be put through the 02A vs the 020.  The 02A are relatively prices to an 020, maybe you can trade.  If i had a choice with what went into my mK3, if it had the hydraulic setup already like yours does, I'd be looking for a 02A or newer tranny.

if you are going to use a non hydro setup than yes swap the pedal's

Sell them on the vortex for someone looking for a conversion

I was going to do a hydro setup ( 020m ) 6 speed

I did a custom 020 build with a peloquin , 3.67 with a .71 FF

I wanted a 3.42 RP

ooh well, dont take it on the freeway much and my last ticket was for 97 in a 65 in this caddy

Still doesnt beat my record ticket of 127 in a 45 on my ducati
