Had a miss last night, no run this morning
« on: November 25, 2010, 03:23:57 am »
AAZ in a mk2. Had a glow plug light flickering a couple of days ago, went away. Had a sporadic miss on the way home last night. Idled fine, only missed and blowing smoke (white?)under high fueling. First thought was water. Dumped some conditioner in when I got home. Fired up this morning fine, filled fuel tank, loosened drain on filter for a while while it was running. Tightened it back up, let it idle for a bit, reved it up again, got the miss and it quit. sounds like it's out of fuel. Raining out and no time to mess with it this morning, taking my truck to work. Changing the fuel filter when I get home. Ticking me off!!

your car lost its prime.. if you would have drained the water off the fuel with the engine stopped, it would have had enough fuel left in the pump to re prime..

thats my best bet atleast..

i NEVER open my filter drain while the car is running.

Turbo: exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens and you go faster.

I find the opposite, if you drain it while it's shut off you'll lose the prime. ran for at least a minute after I drained.........
No matter, found a load of crap in the drain at the back (but no water), put in a new filter, filled it with fuel, and away we go tonight after work. Must have got some dirty fuel somewhere. Still ticks me off.....

some stations (with the addition of the cooler temps) are transitioning over to winter fuel and may have been trying to run their tanks to the very bottom.. you may have picked up some crud when you last fueled up..

problem solved No Big Deal :)
