can you put a remote start on a 2000 TDI, with an automatic transmission of course

I just had one put in my wife’s car (2005 Jetta wagon). I had to have two extra modules. One was for the coded key. They took the valet key and cut the end off and mounted it with a module, and one module to talk to the CAN bus. The Alarm/Remote start was designed to be used with a diesel. It has the glow plug wait to start, and turbo timer shutdown.
The wife loves it. She can start the car from inside the office (about 800 ft). This is what we have, a search on the net will show plenty of others.

That sounds like a lot of work for relatively little benefit.

I would think that having the key in the car would pose a security risk. With the transponder right there you'd think anyone could just punch the lock and steal the car.

Here in the Netherlands.. we have a similar remote start alarmsystem, it only costs 150 euro's with lots of options even turbotimer and coldweather start.
