I always thought the reason was  the "relative humidity" lets say of the unburned fuel in the exhaust on a diesel transfers the heat way faster than the relatively hot dry exhaust of a gasser. This allows gassers to run obscene egts.

Although that said the way to harness mad power out of a gasser is to run it rich..... so there must be unburned fuel at those egt's as well...?
