Short or tall injectors?
« on: November 12, 2010, 02:26:58 pm »
I've the choice of GTD or AAZ injectors - both sets need a service but which should I choose?

The AAZ ones may be 1Y ones from a NA 1.9 engine....

1y injectors are the same length as 1.6 injectors, aaz's are taller.
Are you going to do the new nozzles yourself then i would go by the gtd's.

AAZ injectors will run a bit quieter but are much more expensive to get serviced.  Remember you need the hard lines that go with the injectors...

Reg, there are some nozzles that presquirt, merely due to the tapered, or 'corded' nozzle tip.
Not sure of their numbers:
Inspect some with an eyepiece from a microscope.
Note they only presquirt at low rpm...
The one on the left is slightly tapered

They were removed from a 1Y block and they are longer - not sure of your location, but could your info be US specific?  ???

Get the injectors that match your injection pump plunger

Aha....TDI injectors required then? I have a TDI head and plunger.

I have the lines, I was digging out a set of lines for my engine build and realised I had two types - it was then that I twigged I must have the two different injectors as well !

Mark - thanks for the info.

yeah we always get the ***ty end of the stick when it comes to foreign cars... it'd be nice if they would have sold cosworth escorts here, or many many other cars for that matter.
