Custom Intercooler's ( Based on 675 MM Radiator )
« on: November 07, 2010, 06:34:16 pm »
I have some more info to share on the custom intercooler that cant bolt onthe front of the 675MM scirocco radiator.

Lower Hose for this is radiator fitment:
Scirocco 16 v a/c model 533121051A
Upper hose is the non a/c Diesel jetta hose:191121101Q

I make both now in Silicone..

Working psi 30 psi

It can be mfg' with outlets on the top, middle or bottom

Outlets on each side, ( 2') RH to LH flow

Sizes are:
18 x 6.4 x 2.25 thick , $ 553.00

22 x 6.4 x 2.25 thick, $$ 619.00

26 x 8.5 x 1.25 thick, $$$ 885.00 ( cover's most of the 675 mm )

They can be made to order with your size of outlet's

I will do the larger of course ....

I will install a MKIII Dual fan and add a remote fan swith to draw air in on command ( Jetta Dash )

Remember you get what you pay for, these are U.S. made Intercoolers and I would rather support a company here.

Yes they are made to order, have you seen the size of the new MKV GTI intercooler on the 2.0 T
33 x 33 1.50 thickness with 2.25 outlet's

I have all my tubing done , last will be powdercoat satin black, all transitions red

There is another caddy owner out of TX who did the same, went with the smaller unit on his aaz

Seriously, how much money do you have in your truck? $20K, $30K? $40k?

At those prices, I'd rather be in a new TDI sporwagen or import an Amarok  ::)

Well said, Andrew! Don't bring the guy down for making top quality stuff and charging appropriately, Guy puts together items with aircraft-level specs, which some of us appreciate. :-*

Criticizing someone for having excess money or spending it (or having anything you yourself would enjoy having...) is extremely strange, IMO.

My point, if there is one that anyone would care to hear it, is that there is a dramatic disconnect between the OP and about 99% of the users here. When the first reply to any newbie thread asking a ANY question about ANY aspect of IDI motors is to spend $300-1000 on the ideal (usually brand new and/or exotic) part and have it powdercoated, is not useful advice for people who probably only paid $300-1000 for the car in the first place, and whose main purpose in buying a diesel VW is for economical reasons.  It's all a bit gauche in my mind.

If you're selling something, become an advertiser and list items with prices for sale. If on the other hand, you're so proud of how much money you spent (and continue to spend) on your build, make a  build thread with prices on every goodie on your car, instead of constantly reminding us each time you post:

We've got it. You have a South African rad support and powdercoated everything, which is all made of unobtanium and was spanking new when your bought it from ebay.de.

While I applaud the OP for his initiative in fabricating parts that are either obsolete, prohibitively expensive, or difficult to fabricate or source, I'm having a bit of trouble believing that there is not an element of grandstanding to the "price-dropping" in every other post.  Is that against "the rules"? No. But it personally leaves a bad taste in my mouth, and I rarely see people exhorting us with what they paid for something, unless they got a helluva deal on it (usually whole cars, and usually under $1k). Even in the most obvious, spendy build thread (53 willys), I don't think there's a single mention of cost on anything, even though anyone can tell a chunk of change went into it. In my mind, that's tasteful. We can see the dedication and care that went into the car, without being reminded that we'll probably never attempt or afford to build it.

Maybe it's just me, or maybe I'm not the only one. But I'll be the a$$hole and throw myself on the sword by being the one to say it. Or, just be an a$$hole. You decide.

I don't know the OP, have never dealt with him, or even contacted him. I'm sure he's a wonderful person in his real life, and I can clearly see that he is a dedicated and fervent fan of VW diesels. I also appreciate all the great products that he makes for this community (even though, I have never personally bought any).

Yeah I am with libby on that. I have bought some stuff off of GB and it is all good.

I have passed on an intake tube because it was "too much"...now I have more in my fabbed one because of poor design than I would have buying the one of his. So AGAIN more money doesn't always mean cheaper in the long run. Even when I have half decent fab skills it still turned out bad since I had to redo it 3 times.
BTW maybe you could PM him next time and offer your suggestions and you may get a better response.

im just speaking in terms of he is going to be a loner with his bell intercooler.. thats all. i know if i have enough to buy a bell intercooler, im gonna save up a couple hundred more dollars and buy a Giles pump. that is worth every penny..

not saying its bad. but i 100% agree with QuantumTD about what he posted. it just seems like GB is bragging half the time. not like i have a problem with it, im sure i would brag like that too if i had a $40,000 caddy with powder coated and extrude honed everything..

Come on; if you want to vend then stick it in the vendors section.
What's the point of the section otherwise?

It's what you do for other people....

Iam not asking for anyone here to buy anything , just information on product's and prices...
