« on: October 30, 2010, 09:53:34 pm »
has any one found the point of where the water get into the truck and collects under the pass seat? If it is parked out side in the rain it gets a puddle here and i cannot find where it comes from?

Usually, its the plastic water barrier between the door panel and the door. People do not realize that they actually serve a function. When it rains, the water enters between the window scraper and the glass. It sheets down and exits between the door panel and the door. It then collects on your floor.

Pull the door panel and make sure the plastic barrier is there. If not, go to your hardware store and buy some double-sided carpet tape and some heavy mil plastic. Install the double-sided tape where the original glue was. Then, install the plastic. Cut out the holes for the door clips, window crank, mirror remote and armrest holes with a sheetrock knife. Install your door panel and hardware. Problem solved.

While I'm in there, I usually clean out any debris along the bottom edge of the door to prevent rusting. I do this by breaking up the dirt/dust with a thin screwdriver, and then vacuuming it all out with a shop vac. I also take the time to completely remove the window regulator and grease the hell out of it with some white lithium grease. They tend to bind up without lubrication.

An alternate possibility for water getting into your truck: at one time, my truck had a tonneau cover. Someone drilled holes into the cab for the mounting hardware. Whenever it rained, water would wick into the holes and pool on the bottom under the seats.

Lastly, check the rear window seal.

Having said all that, it's probably the water barrier.

My caddy sat under a tree for 5 years and a squirrel died in the front seat. I stripped it to zero, installed a new interior and ended up with your problem. What I finally found: 1- The windshield gaskets are notorious for leaking especially over the fuse block. My block was so corroded that I had to soak it in dilute hydrochloric acid and then a bucket of baking soda water to neutralize it. Get some flowable silicone seal and use it liberally. 2- The rear window seal is not much better. Mine had some major cancer that I JB Welded to death to seal that up.  3- After doing the above I still had lake soggy rug when it rained. The real solution? That came when I parked on a hill and noticed water running from the drain holes on the pinched seam between the body and the pan. A previous owner's high center antics crushed the front slots shut, trapping the water and causing it to flood the cab. Hammering a screwdriver in the slots and opening them back up solved the problem. I check them periodically to make sure that they're still open. Now I'm high and dry.
