WTB 98 AHU Jetta
« on: October 27, 2010, 10:49:33 am »
I've come to the realization that i'll probably never find a good solid 98 here in the north east. So i'm willing to pay a premium for a completely solid ,no rot ,unmolested 98 or early 99 Jetta TDI. Of course i'm not completely worried about mileage, but obviously the lower the better. Again I will pay top dollar for what i'm looking for- more if it doesn't have PWR windows or a sunroof and extra if it's the original green. If someone steers me towards one that i end up buying, i'll pass a finders fee.I will also accept a 97-99 gasser in similar shape

I have a good solid project car, engine not installed sitting indoors on a pallet. Body is solid as they come for Ontario/Quebec, has 260kms. It is a project, I have $2000+ in it as this point, car comes full of spare new parts-brakes (everything-shoes, drums, cables, discs, pads, etc), shocks, bushings, belts, seals, gaskets, you name it was collected to put it back together plus lots of used spares to keep it on the road. Engine is 100% complete from a 1997 passat, compression tested and ran well plus most of the parts off the original engine which broke the intermediate shaft and lost oil pressure. I have three passats on the road and they just aren't dying, so this one never gets started on. Taking offers. I am near Kemptville, Ontario

I know of one in Marion NC, not mine runs well mileage around 200k or so. Looks to be solid and reasonably rust free although i didn't crawl under. Owner was looking at around 2500-3000. Let me know if you want more info.

Mostly trying for one with a seriously zero/low rust floor. You can see when they are rusting along the seam about 4-6 inches from the edge of the rockers, where water pools inside and they rust from the inside out. Also no bent rocker edges- like when they aren't lifted properly . Yes, I know i'm being picky. Either way- thanks a lot, whether or not you think it's worth checking out.
cheers

I understand completely. The cars down here (nc)are usually in great shape rust wise(i'm from michigan so i know rust also:-)) but based on the lip bending question i would say its lost. I have one of the two he was selling and the seams are pretty bent up. If i head back that way i'll snap some pics just in case its better than i suspect.

I'm interested in your gasser but I'll give the Caveman first refusal.

I'll get some pics on Monday, but I was under it recently, the floors & rockers have zero rust, it was a Florida car before I got it.
The car is a very dark metallic green (Wolfie only), with grey/tan cloth. The Wolfsburg trim means it's upgraded material inside, like a durable courderoy. 4-wheel disks, rear spoiler, front fogs, factory tinted tail lights, 5-spd, sunroof, PS, PB ABS, cold A/C, pwr windows, Panasonic MP3/CD/AM-FM. Medium tint on the windows. 2 sets of wheels,(4-bolt) stock 5-spoke alloys w/ summers, Audi 4K turbines w/ Hankook snows currently mounted.
120K miles
Paint is decent, clearcoat is tired in spots. No big dents, a few lot dings. I have new fogs for it, one is mising a lens.

Looking for about $2500 as it sits now, price goes up the more I fix & clean it up.  ;) I can knock off some if you prefer the original VW stereo, or don't need both wheel sets.

Needs;
Left rear window regulator (typical for these cars' power windows, both fronts have been replaced)
Right Front wheel bearing (in hand)
Parking brake cables (in hand)
Cat is shattered internally from a spare-tire strike on the highway, rattles... (new one in hand)
Glove box latch
Door external trim re-attached (have all)

Recent work;
Fresh tune-up, plugs, cap & rotor, oil change just last week. Always on Mobil-1, & Mann filters. Trans has Swepco 201 in it, which is a little thick in the cold until it warms up.
New rear calipers, new pads all around
Rebuilt 5-spd trans installed @ 95K (5th gear went away on original) Timing belt done at this time also.

All German Bosch ignition components replacing the Mexi-can't crap.
]
NOT MY CAR: but here's the color and interior

nice car, I need a manual shift car with rear drums, no power windows and (hopefully) heated seats. I wonder if there is such an animal?
