You can do 17-ish PSI fairly safely. Especially with an intercooler and an egt gauge.

yeah it'd be quick and fun, i'd run more boost tho since u'd have the intercooler, ur not going to win a bunch of races or anything, but it will be a very fun to drive car

For me personally the 2 main factors for the engine choice would be fuel consumption and driveability

The fuel consumption issue is negligible

Driveability depends on what you want....I've had two 1.6s and two AAZs, I'm now building my next motor and had both motors available - 1.6 block and 1.9 head.

fuel consumption is not really a big issue. i mean with my car i have clocked 850km to a tank, but that was babying the crap out of it. and the smiles and fun of flooring with a cloud behind you is just worth the extra penny at the pump.

and running 17 psi, how reliable would this be? this is a daily, but that being said i'm not looking for bone stock toyota corolla reliability. just something that will start in the morning.

I run 17 psi on a k24 with no intercooler with no issues. Of course I have to keep an eye on egts as they climb very fast. I also have arp bolts and a metal headgasket but those things aren't really mandatory.

Don't know if you got the 205 GTI or the Golf GTI in both guises?

the smaller motor was always considered to be the drivers option.

Sure the 1.9 can grunt but I dont need that in a small light chassis.

i don't know that we ever got any peugots here...  i don't think they'd do well, after fiat and stuff i think small european cars left a bad taste in usa's mouth, kind of like diesels other than vw's.  not that i think fiats are bad cars, they were just sold here at the wrong time and by people who didn't know how to service them so they got a bad rep
