FS: 020 fifth (5th) gear 0.75:1
« on: October 17, 2010, 05:31:00 pm »
I have a good 0.75:1 gear set for sale.  Includes a good synchromesh ring and needle bearing.  A tall fifth gear is the absolute best improvement to your VW, in my opinion.  If you're going from a .89:1 fifth and running 3,000 rpm at 60 mph, you will now run 2,529 rpm (15.7% reduction).  You'll actually ENJOY being on the freeway and not try to avoid them!

$80 shipped in the US

Except for that transition from 4th to 5th and back when you have to downshift because your 1.6NA is such a slug.  ;D

You can look up the ratios from your transmission code.  This is the second tallest gear available for the 020 trans (next to the 0.71:1 which is kinda rare).

FN 28 05 2

You already have a .71 5th gear in your trans.

Let me re-phrase that:  0.71:1 5th is rare to find in a bone yard, but they can be found on ebay, forums, etc.  So yeah, the FN is already a champ transmission (I used to have an FF and it was heaven.  I'm sorry I got rid of it).  I'm selling this 0.75:1 because it was displaced by my 0.71:1
