AAZ injector socket

When i worked at VW and the AAZ engines came out all of a sudden the shop's deep 27 socket wouldn't fit anymore esp if there was any rust built up on the injector. I had to grind the ID to finally get it to slip onto the injectors. I believe it was a Hazet. A few years ago i bought a snap-on deep 27 and have been using it sometimes having to tap[not hammer] it into place, but it worked. All of a sudden i'm having problems getting it to fit onto injectors again. I noticed that sometimes it hanging up on the overflow nipples [hee hee, i said nipples !] . I don't want to bend them back [ and break them] so what's going on? What brand of socket fits properly on those injectors. The other day i removed some by using a 27 mm wrench -but the head was off the block-and of course it's no way to install them.

My socket is a . I put a band of steel cut from a baked bean tin into the socket, and it has become molded to the shape....
I have been known to use ancient Whitworth box spanners

Are you saying to use a 28mm? I suppose that could work, as long as it's 6 point. I even thought about using a 27 mm crow's foot but then it would affect the torque valve by a little.

The truth of the matter was I picked up a quality 28mm socket at a 'car boot/trunk market in error, but it was like a couple of dollars.
It is too slack on it's own, but only because the injectors have the corners cut off the 'nut'...
However a slice of tin food can inside the socket, but formed round an injector to get the rough hexagon shape, then put in the socket and used on a couple of injectors, creates a snug fit, but gives that extra clearance for the leakoff barbs that you don't have for many 27mm sockets.
As said before; my other favourite is some old box spanners/wrenches, because then you can leave half of the leakoff pipe junctions alone because the piping will tuck inside the box spanner. Thus if you are short of spare leakoff tubing, less joints to repair if they leak.
Did that make sense?

If you can't find your Snap-On guy MAC makes a "diesel injector socket" that fits perfectly as well: part #SC141

Nope, doesn't work. The only difference between it and the deep 27 i already have is that it's 12 point instead of 6 point. It will not pass over the return nipples. He even had a new 12 point 27 mm crowfoot that looked like it may work, but since it's open, as soon as i get close to torque value it just spun. I even took a chance of bending the nipples tighter to the body, still no go. Also tried a deep impact 27 , but it's way too thick to fit between the injector and head. I'm going to have to order the Hazet one.

Marc,
I got the Snap-On socket and was able to remove my OEM AAZ injectors.
Honestly, when I arrived I looked at it and thought there was no way...but it grabs just enough of the injector body to get it out. I'll take a couple of pictures this morning to show how it just barely fits.
That being said, I'd still look for a better alternative.

Caveman,
Harbour Freight sells a Diesel Injector Socket set, Item No. 99851. It contains 4 sockets--28 mm, 27 mm, 22 mm and a really deep 22 mm. The 27 mm one worked perfectly to change the injectors in my AAZ. It is made in Taiwan but seems like it is good steel. As I recall I ordered mine by mail. It was not expensive and came quite quickly.
