sticking rear brakes

My rear brake calipers keep sticking on my MK4, its not dragging the wheel but it causes friction and it is grabbing some. I loosen the cable from inside a bit and it was working great then I used the brakes some and its sticking again.

Assuming the issue is not a sticking e-brake cable this is a very common problem with this caliper design and the only fix is to replace 'em... they are not repairable, once they start to stick.
If you poke around the MK4 forum on the Vortex you'll find tons of rants.

Thanks for the Quick reply, Its been buggin us for a few days because the car doesn't move on small hills and its slows it down on the highway lol

Jeremy you can FEEL its the brakes, and i had the car up you CAN'T spin the tire by hand. They are SHOT lol

So New Calipers, Rotors and Pads and one Caliper seems to be dragging, the bracket it sits on and it causes it to drag and I can barely spin it by hand....ANYONE GOT ANY IDEAS?

I've got the same problem on our mkIII.
Both sides, and on top of that, one of the front bearings is failing... once everything heats up the car really drags. Gotta find some time to look at this car, the gas mileage is in the toilet.

the driver side doesn't drag, the passenger side keeps sticking and its pissing me off

I have the exact same problem. I'll be replacing both rear calipers next week, and I just did my e-brake cables. I'll let you know how it goes.

I replaced everything but the Ebrake cables, its the outer pad that was causing alot of friction when I installed it. I'm giong to run them gently for the day and see if it wears in better.
HOW to I get my pedal firm again, Do i need to bleed ALL the brakes or just the rears? I replaced all the calipers

If all the calipers were off, you need to bleed everything. Start with the furthest from the master cylinder and work towards it. It's a good opportunity to replace all your fluid with fresh stuff, keep pumping it until it runs clear from all the lines.
