How is cam splash shield attached?
« on: October 10, 2010, 01:58:50 pm »
I removed the cylinder head on my 1.6 TD (mechanical lifters) a while ago and being that I'm over 40 and I've slept since then, I can't remember how the cam splash shield is attached.  Does it just sit loosely on top of the camshaft bolts?  If so, what keeps it from flopping around in there?  I am motivated to get this engine back together but I'd like to resolve this shield issue before first startup.

Thanks,

-David

Yes, I think it just sits loosely on top of the nuts.  The VC should keep it in place.

Yeah. It just sits on top of the cam journal caps. You'll have to try it both ways to see which orientation lets it sit flat. I think the end with the irregular slots to fit over the nuts goes towards the cam gear.

Thanks guys, it does seem to fit a bit better with the irregular end towards the cam pulley.  I won't worry about it anymore.
