WTB or Find lights for a heater control or the heater control
« on: September 28, 2010, 07:42:53 pm »
I have a 1986 MKII jetta. I don't know if there are bulbs or some sort of LED in the heater control but I need it. I have no heater control light. I have no partiality to mine and if someone has an entire unit I would love to have it. Mine is A/C with the 1,2,3,4 fan switch. Everything works on mine except the light. Let me know what is up and if you have one.

Yes I know it is getting power as I am running all my gauge lights from that feed.

Thanks Lucas><>

Yeah, the bulb is molded in permanently... and if you go to a junk yard you'll probably find it full of cars with burnt out heater controls as well.   ;)

If you search on the Vortex you should find a couple threads on drilling out the old bulb and replacing it with a a new bulb or LED.

Thanks, after much searching and not wanting to overdo my project LOL  I am not going LED, don't want the resistors and work. Found out where the bulb is and what it is.
Most all part stores will have it. Sylvania 2721 LL
LL=long life and I won't want to replace it too much so that is what I am going with. Also, for those not wanting to search more if you found this looking to fix your problem, here is a thread that shows location. I believe it to look the same as mine so I hope yours is too.

I did the light, but it wasn't easy. I didn't have the bulb that just comes out so I had to break it into pieces. Also the new sylvania had a little glass ball at the end and couldn't be shoved in all the way. I had to cut the factory thing in 1/2 and soldier the bulb to wires. I cut some spade terminals to push into the socket for the power. Long story is I have lights in my heater but the 2721LL wasn't a plug n play easy deal. Just warning you.
If I read the vortex correcty the later MKII (87 or 88 and up) had an easier bulb configuration to get in and out.
