mTDI
« on: October 14, 2010, 03:53:05 pm »
I have a Rover pump and may do a mTDI in Mk1 - Caddy.
To make thins fit as far as trany goes I was thinking of using the 5th (.71) gear of a late FN or FF and putting it in a
ASF, AON, ACN, ACL (8v)   3.67   3.45   1.94   1.37   1.03   0.75 trany - in order for it to be able to handle added HP and torque and yet fit without much modification - I do have the AHU's corresponding CTN tranny but it will require a modded cable shifting system and maybe mounts too.
Now for the clutch I was wanting to use the 210 flywheel - and maybe use a gasser one since it would be lighter - any comments or suggestions on this matter - also I will need a stout clutch to mate the two together - does anyone have any good recommendations for a 210 clutch that will not slip?

Seems you're doing the same as me, I don't have a Rover pump just a AAZ pump. I'm going to use a close ratio trans with a .071 fifth. Shpould be fun to drive and cruise well. People suggest using a 16 valve engine gas clutch. In the TDI cars I use VR6 clutch, last forever.

But do you know if the VR6 clutch will fit on a 210mm flywheel - I don't know - did they make VR6s back in the 90s where the clutch and pressure plate fit the size and style of 210mm Mk2 flywheel?
