This belongs to a friend, but I did all the work to it since about 180k. The car runs great, starts fine, does not smoke excessively (little on startup, but normal for a diesel).
The trans shifts fine, I just replaced the heater core (a few months ago), and flushed the entire cooling system about 3 years ago. It runs fine and does not overheat.
When the heater core blew, she shut the car off immediately. Even still, I checked the compression. It was 420 PSI across all the cylinders when the motor was cold (94 degree ambient temps). Pretty damn good.
The turbo spins fine. There is no in-out play, just the standard amount of lateral play.
I think she just put new tires on it too.
Other things recently replaced:
Master cylinder and booster
rear wheel cylilnders
linkage components and clutch cable
Resealed pump
New timing belt, water pump and tensioner at 180k
probably a bunch of other stuff I'm forgetting
I took pains to keep this car 100% original. That may be boring for some, but it makes it easier to repair if anything fails, but right now, the car runs and drives great. The only upgrade I would suggest is a taller trans. The AVX revs a bit high for my tastes at 70 MPH.
This is a great deal
