1.6l crankshaft sprocket differences
« on: September 05, 2010, 10:09:34 am »
So just got my 1.6l block rebuilt and they threw in a new crankshaft.  I was told that I could pull off the crank sprocket from the 1.5l I was using but found out that the sprocket wont work on the new crankshaft because.....

the new crankshaft has a female slot for a sprocket with a male tab on the inside.
the 1.5 crank was the opposite.  The crank has a tab on it and the sprocket has a groove on the inside mating surface to lock it in place.

so........does anyone know about the difference in cranks or crank sprockets?  I have sourced a couple of sprockets from 1.6l blocks and they have been female oriented (with a groove on in mating surface).

Did the guy give me some weird crankshaft?  Is it possible to safely us a female sprocket and a female crankshaft (seems it would slip)?
