I just got a smartphone, so I will have to try this out.
My car already has a tach so I will see how close the two readings are to each other.

Looks like it will only work on PocketPC and Windows OS, so those of us with Android (Or iPhones...  ) are out.

I've got a blackberry World, the GF is on her second Iphone.

I'm sitting in my car with it right now. Unfortunately I don't have a tach yet, so I can't really see how accurate it is. Expecting it in the mail any now

I see what it's doing, and in theory it should work. While I have different noises at various RPMs (belt squeals and such) the overall frequency should have a 1-to-1 relationship with engine speed. I think actually driving down the road you would get too much interference from road noise/other cars to be of any use. But it's an interesting idea here in the driveway.

I have an android, so this app does not  work...
And I searched the android market, no tach app.
