1991 n/a alt set up
« on: August 23, 2010, 09:48:18 pm »
Ok, finally got a fresh rebuild done on the 1.6 it's out of a 91, I'm used to mk1 drive belt set ups so I was a little surprised when I went to bolt up my old alt and belt.. It's got a weird set up and I don't know the drive belt diagram can anyone help me? Do I need to get a newer mark 2 alt, and if I do that, can I run a belt set up with the alt, water pump, and crank or does it need a ps pump? I don't really want to pull the whole bracket because I'll have to pull the ip again any help here guys?

IF it was an A/C set-up originally - that you're dealing with (new engine pieces) -  you'll need to mount an a/c compressor.

If the engine is going into an Mk1 - you would have needed to swap the passenger engine mount / Inj Pump bracket from the Mk1, and probably would have been good to use all the other Mk1 parts/brackets.

Is the engine installed in the car ?

I may not be understanding everything clearly.

I'm not looking directly at an example, but have them in the driveway and in other places, Mk2 engines with and without a/c, Mk2 cars with a/c and pwr str. If any of that would help for needed info/pics from them.

no you've got what im saying.. i purchased the motor as a running, 1.6 found out that it needed a rebuild..( rust on the cylinder walls) so i pulled it apart, honed re ringed and did the main and rod bearings while i was in there. its a slight build as i put a 1.6td setup on it.. i changed the ip bracket not really paying attention to the alt bracket.. what im trying to ask is what do i need to run for a belt set up for the water pump and alt  here are some pics to help

help me i want this done!!

I used my MK I gasser alt. I had to cut it and make a bracket out of a turnbuckle, but for a single V belt this is pretty good. I just cut the mount on top down and used washers to shim in each direction. I also had to drill the alt. for a 12mm bolt as the MKI gasser had an 11mm. Shown here:
