Clutch specifications

The 1.6 TD engine is out on the bench with the transaxle pulled off to access the clutch. The flywheel is off along with the friction disc. The unit was slipping badly for the last 30 km limping home. The pieces look good. The flywheel and pressure plate assembly surfaces look like new. The friction disc is measuring a hair under 8 mm in thickness. There is an oil haze on things but no fresh leaking from the transmission seal. The pressure plate assembly is still attached to the crankshaft so inspection of that seal is not done. Does anyone have a friction disc thickness limit spec. There is nothing in Bentley. Any ideas why this would be slipping? Pedal play was okay when this transpired. I am suspecting that the friction disc is under spec in thickness. Pressure plate assembly has no broken fingers.

Friction disc is LUK manufacture (Mexico?)
 

1. Replace just the friction disc

if its not almost down to the metal rivets holding it together, then my bet would be that its oil soaked. and it dont take much oil to do it. a clutch is supposed to be spotless dry when you pull it out. not even a little oil on it.

i would say that ive driven a few clutches down to like almost 4mm..

I will take that as a given that it is oil soaked. Looks like I need to replace the rear main seal.

LUK has many manufactuing plants. They are based out of Germany, but have one in Wooster, Ohio...so it all depends as to where the disc was made. Usually excellent quality.
