This is more a FYI post but I thought you guys might enjoy a bit professional stupidity. My shop mainly services European cars and we get our fair share of IDI diesels. One of my techs replaced a pump bracket with a used one. Long story short. A 1.6 NA diesel will run with the pump 180 degrees out. It will be hard to start and it will smoke a lot, and not have much power but it will run.
Is he still working there now? Or has he been sent to the corner of the shop with the Bentley manual for the rest of the day?
Yeah. Still working here. He's flat rate and goes too fast sometimes. Just having me go fix it for him was punishment enough.
I know what you mean about the punishment part. The only thing worse would have been for him to clock off some job and fix it himself and not get the time for it.
