Dimmer lighting question

I have almost got it ready to fire and the gauges have taken about 10 hours of my time to do so. I need to know as I looked in the bentley but just want to be sure. All the Blue with Grey stripe wires on the interior should be connected to the dimmer on the switch with the headlights. Not the bright/low switch but the one with the dash lights on it. Says it should be a blue/grey wire comming to the cigarette lighter light, but I can't find it. Would ANY blue/grey wire work
This is the 86 jetta diesel in my build thread BTW. Any help would be great as it might fire tomorrow

Still wondering. Kind of need to know if possible tomorrow. I think the blue with grey stripe wire is the lights for the dash, but just want to be sure. I also don't want to run it all the way over to the switch if I don't have to. Thanks Lucas><>

I'm pretty sure about any blue/grey wire will work.
Or maybe its grey/blue ... maybe double check with www.a2resource.com wiring schematics.
Radio wiring would be another source.

Whatever wire you pick, check to see if it gets voltage when you turn on the parking lights. Then you're good.

From Vortex...First one is INCORRECT on the dimmer, but has good info on the rest. The second confirms my Bentley suspision and it is the BL/GY wire that dims.

no thats because black with yellow is ignition so when the key is turned, power is to that source... i beieve the correct color is... gray with green. do u have a light tester or multi meter? plug the switch in, and put the needle in the back of the plug so when u hit the switch the light comes on or u get a volt reading... ill check on mine a little later and get back to u for sure...

Gray/green is the outside parking lights. THe correct wire is gray/blue, that is the dimmed wire. it is also on the deforster switch, hazard switch, and heater control light.

Sorry BVZ I didnt' see your post until I found this. I figured I would put it up for search reasons. You know, so when I forget next time I won't have to go to the Vortex.
